The Washington State Board of Pilotage Commissioners (BPC) strongly supports ethnic and gender inclusion and diversity in pilotage. In August of 2016 the Board, in partnership with Puget Sound Pilots (PSP), formed the BPC/PSP Joint Diversity Committee with the goal to improve diversity: through improvements of awareness of marine career paths; by publicizing exam and training opportunities; by addressing economic barriers to marine pilot training/career; by addressing work environment barriers to marine pilot training/career; and through examination of the routes of entry into pilot training in WA State. Committee members include active male and female pilots, a retired female pilot, maritime industry leaders, and graduates from maritime academies. Additional information can be found below:
